Dublin-based industrial gloves and protective footwear provider integrates IT with C Butt Ltd

It was towards the Autumn of 2019 that Keypoint Industrial Solutions Ltd moved their entire UK logistics operation from Dublin to Northampton. Up until then, the goods had been picked, packed and despatched by their own operations staff, that operated downstairs in their own warehouse on an industrial park just 20 mins from Dublin Airport. The jobs were entered manually into the DPD web booking portal by their warehouse team and labels generated for despatch, and the parcels made the short journey to the local DPD centre for sortation and their journey continued by road into the UK.

The proposal by C Butt Ltd was quite a simple one to explain, in terms of IT, mostly because C Butt operate with JDA (was Red Prairie, and is now Blue Yonder). It was to completely automate order communication, from the moment a job was entered within the Keypoint order system.

The customer facing staff would book the jobs on the usual Keypoint system, and from there they would be able to see everything. The orders would be transferred to C Butt Ltd automatically, and JDA would send back a job acceptance, along with the various status changes as the orders made their way from being received, to being ready for despatch. At the push of a button, the warehouse operative would then push the order to despatched, and the DPD label would come out. From here, DPD would send back the consignment number into JDA and again, this information goes straight back to Dublin. In the time that it takes to pick an order, the team in Dublin could see the DPD tracking number.

Automating this communication has not only saved countless hours in terms of processing, it improved accuracy and it helped to limit teething problems and it gave both parties the confidence to move forward together. Keypoint Awarded C Butt Ltd a 5 year contract to provide warehousing services within their Shared User Distribution Centre in Northampton.
